This week was the transition from shooting footage to editing footage. We still spent the first few days out in the Seaport, North End, Dorchester, and Needham to conduct some wrap-up interviews to tie our project together. However, the second half of the week was all computer work. This week I learned how to operate Adobe Premiere Pro, an advanced video editing software. As per Pete’s warnings, there was a learning curve, but after a few hours of messing around and Google searches, I had a basic understanding that I have been building since. The editing process is also quite fun. We are all working on different sections of footage, so we are all putting our own creative spins on them. It’s fun to incorporate music I like, chop up and consolidate interviews, mix b-roll into the production, and use graphics to emphasize things. I have taken on the Harvard section and also the ending. Griffin did the MIT section and the interview with the judge. Magnus did the Seaport, and Adam did the Commons and North End. We have all been working on the Jason Stone interview. The only issues this week were relatively minor, technology-related things like unsaved progress or missing files. One skill that I have developed over this senior project is definitely some computer skills regarding the navigation of things like files, downloads, pictures, videos, etc. I have benefited from this week because I am now comfortable using Adobe Premiere, which may come in handy in future student projects and beyond into my professional career. This week has mainly contributed to goal 3: Produce a polished documentary. The other two goals were accomplished last week because we filmed more than 5-7 interviews and figured out what our narrative arc was going to be. In the next few days, we will polish our work and cross the finish line.
