When teachers are professionally fulfilled, demonstrate job satisfaction, skills and knowledge and have a strong feeling efficacy around their practice, they are likely to motivate pupils to want to learn.
Barth (1990) argues, 'Probably nothing in a school has more impact on a student than the personal and professional growth of their teachers' - Stall and Fink (1997)
At Primary Advantage, we use the following forms of Continual Professional Development (CPD):
All staff attend meeting, they consist of training, discussion time, reflection and evaluation of strategies being implemented in the Primary Advantage Federation. Staff meetings may be provided in house or by other external providers. As a professional courtesy, staff are required to be on time for these meetings.
Colleagues are given opportunity to observe and feedback to one another, become critical friends and support each other in their professional development. Line managers support, model and develop staff within their position and will regularly mentor colleagues.
Monthly 1:1 meetings will occur with line manager. These meetings provide staff opportunity to discuss in depth current targets, deadlines and demands that are set. It provides a platform for staff to discuss in detail their progress and reflect on their attainment.
Hackney Education Services' provides training on most curriculum areas and many aspects of teaching and learning as well as Safeguarding. A training brochure can be found on the HES website.
In order to build capacity within the federation, develop and share consistent good practice, staff may work across within the Federation. This includes an annual Festival, which is a special INSET day for all teachers across the Federation. Each year the festival focuses on a specific area that Primary Advantage believes is important.
