The Can Do Descriptors are a collection of resources that enable elementary and content area teachers to understand a students English Langauge Proficiency level. The ESL Program Specialist has the English language proficieny levels of all English Learners. These levels may be based on the WIDA Screener, or the state ACCESS for ELs English Language Proficiency assessment. 

To use the Can Do Descriptors, the teacher would take the overall score in each measured area: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing, and find that area on the  Can Do Descriptors. Next, take the overall score in each area, and match it with the level across the top. 

The items listed below the number are the items that the English Learner CAN DO, based on proficiency level, ONCE they are taught how to do it. This will enable to the elementary and Content area teachers to provide activities on the level that the English Learner "can do."
