This guide is to be used for proper placement of English Language Learners in the school district. It is important to remember that ALL ELLs are allowed to attend public school in Pennsylvania until they are 21 years old.
Students should NOT be placed in grades solely on age. A variety of factors need to be conidered in order to be placed appropriately. The ESL Program Specialist should ALWAYS be consulted before placement occurs.

The WIDA Screener is the testing instrument that determines if a student would benefit from English Language Development classes. This website will give basic information about the WIDA Screeners.
English as a Second Language is NOT Special Education, nor does it fall under the Special Education umbrella.
