The newspaper module is an in-depth synoptic case study into the national UK newspaper with a focus on two case study texts: The Guardian and the Daily Mail. 

This section will be assessed as part of Paper 1: Media Messages. There will be four essay questions, each worth either 10 or 15 marks. 

You will be presented with two unseen extracts of a particular news story which will have political / cultural or social relevance. One of the sources will be from a ‘quality’ newspaper and the other from a ‘popular’ newspaper, ie. a tabloid. At least one of the extracts will be a newspaper you have not studied in-depth.
