The Unit 5 A2 project must be a ‘substantial & realistic’ project. This means the project should include:
1. plenty of original coding using the features of the programming language, such as arrays, procedure calling, parameters, functions, etc.
2. considerable storage of data (minimum of 5 tables/files - remember that the Unit 2 questions usually consist of 3 entities, linked together by key fields – now the level of complexity has increased and you need 5 entities). You could also use arrays and other data structures in your code)
3. manipulation/processing of data, which involves calculations (e.g. sales invoice, discounts, loyalty points), data being summated for reporting purposes, sorting, searching, etc.
4. a minimum of two complex outputs showing how data has been manipulated (e.g. monthly sales report, invoice, competition winners, league tables, etc)
5. be able to be implemented, as if it was being developed for a real company/business
Choices of Project:
Newsagents (stock, paper deliveries, billing customers)
Booking System (e.g. driving school, recording studio, hair salon, hospital appointments, car repairs, phone repairs, cinema)
Tickets (concert/show, takings per show, tickets left)
Sports Day (participants, winners, points per pupil, houses)
Learning Package (e.g. Maths, Science, other subjects)
Stock Control / Sales System (e.g. Games shop, cafe, jewellers, car sales, sports shop, personalisation of goods sold)
Inventory System (stock, renew, PAT tests, cost to renew)
Spelling Bee (online spelling tests, scores, pupil progress)
Tournament (Tennis/Gaming/Other Sport, tournament bracket, )
Sports Club (members, fixtures, leagues)
Eisteddfod (entrants, on/off stage competitions, houses, overall winners)
Gardening club (plants, watering schedule, sales, profit)
Hospital Management System (patients, wards, consultants, nurses, operations, invoices for treatments
Library (books, other loan items, loans, fines, members)
Restaurant (bookings, delivery, discounts)
Hotel (bookings, rooms, customers, discounts, banquets, conferences)
Duke Of Edinburgh (pupils taking part, levels completed, awards, expeditions planned)
NOTE: When you choose your project, your teacher will ensure you have an idea from which you can generate a good A2-standard project. This may mean that some extra features are suggested, to add to your original idea – don’t be surprised if this happens!
