MULTIMEDIA SOFTWARE - ANIMATION
Presentations can contain animations.
An animation is moving text / moving image(s).
Animators use many different techniques. There are a number of different forms of animation techniques such as rotoscoping and stop motion. In addition to these, when producing an animation, animators often use key frame (flash) animation techniques such as Tweening and Onion Skinning.
High Specification Hardware
Software that processes high-resolution computer animation requires both high specification computer hardware and a large development team. There are many reasons why such software requires high-specification hardware to run effectively and these are outlined below:-
A processor with a high clock speed, would be needed to perform transformations
A large amount of RAM would be needed, as there would be lots of frames of animation being worked on at any time
A high-specification graphics card, would facilitate high-speed rendering
A large-resolution display, would be useful for displaying multiple frames in parallel / showing more of a 3D model
Using real life / photograph / film and tracing each frame (1) to create a life like motion / cartoon effect (1).
Objects are traced over to produce a cartoon effect animation.
Tracing/drawing around/over an image
Gives a cartoon like appearance / creating a life like motion
Photographing/Filming live/real action, by tracing each frame with a small change to create a life like motion.
Live actors are filmed. Frames are then traced over to produce a cartoon effect animation.
Move an object a small amount between taking photographs of it
Using still images and making them appear to move, by moving an object a small amount each time between taking photographs.
An example of stop motion animation is Clay animation
Clay animation is very time consuming as it took 5 years to make the Wallace and Gromit film.
It uses stop motion animation by moving a object taking a photo and repeating this process.
Must have idea of a small change between each frame/picture, e.g. Moving an object a small amount each time between taking photographs / Making a slight change to each picture
When you play the pictures/frames back it appears as if the image is moving.
Claymation - Clay figures are photographed, moved
and photographed again. This is repeated since each photograph forms a frame that can be played in sequence to produce an animation.
Computer/software generates, the in-between frames, between two key frames or start and end frames.
The process of getting the computer to create the in-between frames to smooth out the animation
Key frame (flash) animation technique used to get the computer to generate the in-between frames.
The animator could draw the start and end points
Previous frames are still visible in order to
help plan the next frame
track motion of an object
Each frame in an animation is produced whilst several frames before are visible to help the animator track the motion of an object.
Allows an animator to track the frame-byframe motion of an object
The process by which the eye is fooled into thinking that still pictures are moving.
or
The human eye / retina / brain continues to see an image for a short period after the image has disappeared
or
The name given to the animation technique where multiple images blend into a single image to create the illusion that objects are moving. Also called an afterimage.
An animator sometimes uses Grouping to combine separate objects to animate them at the same time.
FRAME RATES
Frame rates are very important in animation. Animators often experiment with different frame rates when creating an animation. Experimenting with the frame rate may have an efffect on the quality of an animation. A higher frame rate means that your animation plays smoothly.
STORYBOARDS
Animators produce a Storyboard before creating the computerised animation.
A story board is a plan/design which can be done in many ways such as
Frame-by-frame
Comic book
Scene-by-scene
Detailing key elements
Sequence/order of events
Other documents in addition to a storyboard that are often produced when planning an animation include:-
Mood boards
Flip books
Time plan/line
Script
