House System

The house system is a traditional feature of many British schools. Historically it was associated with schools where a ‘house’ refers to a boarding house. In the case of a school like Portfield, the word ‘house’ refers to a grouping of children. The children are divided between four houses, which are named after local individuals that have made a significant difference to our world.

Portfield Primary Academy has rich and varied curricular and enrichment programme for students to participate in, ranging from community and charitable work, to musical, sporting and artistic activities. There are so many ways in which our students engage in the wider life of the school that it seems only fitting to ensure that the house system is used as a vehicle to reward student participation. The house system aims to build relationships, foster a sense of pride, encourage pupils to take on a leadership role and provides opportunities to give back to the school.
