5 Ways to Respect

At Portfield, we believe that respect is at the heart of positive behaviour and that all members of the school community have a responsibility to promote this core value. In collaboration with the children, we have created five key rules that help us promote respect around our school:

Speak politely (please, thank you, sorry, excuse me)

Think before you speak

Look at the person you are speaking with

Think about how loud you need to be

Praise others when they are successful or trying hard

Greet people nicely (Good morning, Hello, How are you?)

Accept that staff have responsibility for the safety of the children

Accept staff decisions without argument

Engage in learning by asking questions and working hard

Listen and considering the opinions of others

Stay out of the personal space of others

Treat people as you would like to be treated

Walk calmly and quietly around the school building

Put rubbish/recycling in the correct bins

Tidy up after you have used a space in the school

Report any damage to a member of staff

Use resources sparingly so you do not waste them

Treat the school belongings as you would want others to treat your belongings

Strive to do your best at all times

Be ready for learning when lessons are starting

Have the correct equipment for learning

Ask for help (from friends and staff)  if you need it

Complete your home learning to the best of your ability

Take responsibility for your own learning

Work hard so that do not distract others from their learning

Respond kindly to what others say

Work calmly and quietly

Support others to achieve well

Have a positive attitude

Listening and consider the opinions of others
