Distance learning resources for PUSD schools affected by COVID-19

We wanted to thank you for investing in our youth’s education by passing of Measure I1, a component of which is the roll out of 1:1 devices for students in grades 6-12.

Beginning next year, 2018/19 all students in grades 6-10 will be issued PUSD chromebooks for use at school and at home. This plan follows along with the Tech for All initiative that began in PUSD middle Schools in 2015. It is our expectation that students care for their devices and bring them to school daily as they would a pencil. This will allow for students to regularly use digital components of new curriculum, digitally organize themselves and complete online homework while not at school.

Device Handbook Slides

At the end of the school year, students will keep the device that has been checked out to them so they have access to it over the summer and are ready with the device for the following school year.

As the implementation continues in subsequent years, students can expect to receive a device in 6th grade and another in 9th grade. Old chromebooks that are collected will be redistributed in 4th and 5th grade classrooms in order to reach a 3:1 device ratio.

It is not expected or anticipated that students will be on their devices all day, however, having regular access to a device will allow for 21st century instructional shifts to take place.

Part of those shifts require that students be good digital citizens and practice safe and appropriate online behavior that leaves behind a positive digital footprint.
