About our TIP Program

Our Talented Individual Performer (TIP) Program is aimed at highly talented individuals from Years 7–12 who are participating in their chosen sport or creative pursuits (be that musical, cultural or specialist academic endeavours) at an elite level, which necessitates extraordinary interruptions to school life.

The program is designed to assist students to meet both their academic and sport/activity commitments and expectations throughout their time at PLC Sydney.

Depending on each student’s individual needs, demands on their time, level of performance and impact on school life, each successful applicant will be admitted into either Level 1 or Level 2 of the TIP Program.

This is determined by the TIP Coordinator based on the student’s application and/or the initial interview between the student and TIP Coordinator.

TIP Program Level 2 Additional Assistance

1. Level 1 TIP Program

The criteria for Level 1 TIP Program:

Competing/performing/achieving at a minimum State level, or equivalent
Training / practicing a significant number of hours per week
Participation in your chosen activity at an elite level that necessitates some extraordinary interruptions to school life

Once accepted into Level 1 TIP Program you can expect the following:

a system of support and assistance with communication between teaching staff and the talented individual - communication regarding peak training or competition times and any extra support the talented individual may need to ensure academic requirements are being met
assistance with time management and planning of the talented individual’s academic and sport / activity schedule
access to additional programs, such as homework groups, to assist the talented individual meet academic expectations in a timely manner
recognition of achievements
facilitation of open and supportive communication between the talented individual, her parents and staff members.

2. Level 2 TIP Program

The criteria for Level 2 TIP Program:

Competing/performing/achieving at a minimum National level, or equivalent
Training / practicing a minimum of 14 hours per week in your chosen activity (not including optional extra minor sports/activities)
Participation in your chosen activity at an elite level that necessitates extraordinary interruptions to school life

Once accepted into Level 2 TIP Program you can expect the following:

additional programs, such as variation to curriculum considerations and homework groups to assist the talented individual meet academic expectations in a timely manner. On application, Year 9 and 10 students can apply to vary their curriculum load such that students do two electives rather than three. The lesson time for these subjects is then timetabled as a TIP lesson where students must report to the Library to complete homework and assignments.
a personalised system of support and liaison between teaching staff and the talented individual to ensure academic requirements are being met, with consideration of her sport / activity demands
personalised assistance with time management and planning of the talented individual’s academic and sport / activity schedule
recognition of achievements
facilitation of open and supportive communication between the talented individual, her parents and staff members.

TIP Program Level 2 Additional Assistance

How to apply

The application process involves the following steps:

Completing the online application form (see below)
Your application will then be reviewed by the TIP Program review panel, including the TIP Coordinator and members of the Executive staff
You will be notified as to whether your application has been successful and also of your TIP status, if applicable (either Level 1 or Level 2).
Once your application has been accepted, you will meet with the TIP Coordinator to discuss your individual needs. We will also discuss the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the program
A review of your TIP status will occur annually to assess any changes needed.
