Have you ever wondered why a particular young adult book was awarded a prize? Perhaps you thought a different title deserved to win? If you love to read and would like to have the chance to share your opinions on a national stage, consider joining our Shadow Judging group. Shadow Judging is an opportunity for the voices of young readers to be heard as part of the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year awards. Members read the books shortlisted for the CBCA Book of the Year awards, and then debate which one deserves to win. Our group submits a vote, which then becomes part of a national tally that is announced in Book Week. We meet weekly to debate the various nominated books, and members can also produce a creative response to the books they read. In previous years our members have been invited to present a review at the official awards ceremony. =
Shadow judging runs from March, when the shortlist is announced, until Book Week in August.
