In S2 it is our aim to continue to give our pupils as broad a range of learning experiences as possible, both indoors and out of doors to provide the skills essential for their journey towards excellence.
In Craft, pupils will make a Garden Trowal made from mild steel. They will continue developing their skills learned in S1 in the use of basic hand tools and in the use of workshop machinary such as the Pillar Drill. They will develop skills in new processes such as marking out and cutting both sheet metal and also metal bar, filing metal, forming metal and joining metal using steel snap head rivets. They will also learn about finishing processes such as plastic dip coating.
In S2 Graphics, pupils will build on their skills aquired in S1. They will learn how to use drawing instruments more accurately, build on their knowledge of 2D and 3D drawing techniques and also in the use of 2D and 3D drawing software. The programs we use for this are 2D Design and Autodesk Inventor.
S2 pupils will carry out an IDL (Inter-disciplinary Learning) activity, between both Technical and Computing departments. This usually last for a six week period, and comprises of a team based design activity centred on the design and prototype manufacture of a mobile phone/camera holder.
S2 pupils will undertake a two week RREC (Rapid Response Engineering Challenge) team based activity program. The RREC fortnight culminates in a full days activity where teams compete against each other in a series of Rapid Response Challenges. More information can be found on our RREC page here.
