By the time they reach S4, pupils are well prepared to undertake a course in National 4 or 5 Computing Science. National 3 Computing is also an option where this is suitable.
National 4 and 5 Computing Science
Both courses cover the core topics of Software Development and Design (SDD), Computer Systems, Database Design and Development (DDD) and Web Design and Development (WDD).
National 4
Pupils undertaking National 4 Computing Science will complete several practical assignments. These will be marked internally and moderated externally.
National 5 Computing
In the Spring Term, pupils taking National 5 will complete SQA assignments in Software Design and Development, Database Design and Development and Web Design and Development. These will be completed under exam conditions, marked externally and will form 33% of the final grade. National 5 also has a final exam which forms 67% of the final grade.
There is a higher focus on written theory in S4 and all pupils will create a portfolio of skill-based evidence.Â
