The Flu/Influenza

What is the Flu?

The flu, also known as influenza, is an infection. It can cause nausea, vomiting, fevers, headaches, and other problems. The flu is caused by the influenza virus. A virus is a micro organism (micro=small/tiny and organism=a living thing).

Should I stay home?

The flu virus is contagious meaning it can spread from person to person. Do not go to school because you will spread the virus to other people. When you stay home you should get some rest and relaxation so your body will fight off the virus quicker.

Is there a vaccine?

There is a vaccine for the flu, it is called the flu vaccine. You should ask your doctor when you should get the flu vaccine immediately because it is a whole lot worse getting the flu than getting a shot. The flu vaccine will make it so that if you get the flu, the symptoms will be mild and it will sometimes make it so you won’t get the flu at all.

When Should I get the flu vaccine?

Flu season in the United States is from October to May. People usually get the flu shot before October so that when they get the flu shot they haven’t already gotten it. Make sure to get the flu shot earlier in the year so that you don’t have to go through the uncomfortable experience of having the flu.
