What to bring to the Benedum Center:
Attire
Students should arrive at the Benedum Stage Door dressed in their flesh-toned uniform leotard, tights, and shoes.
ALL dancers should have outerwear covering their dancewear for arriving and leaving the theatre.
Ideally, students should wear a zip-up jacket or other shirt that does not need to be taken off over their head over their leotard, so that hair and makeup are not compromised.
Dancers should have extra tights in their bag in the event of an emergency.
Nails / Jewelry
Dancers are not permitted to have any nail polish for the duration of the performances.
Dancers are not permitted to wear earrings or other jewelry. For earrings that cannot be taken out, we recommend that your dancer packs flesh-toned band-aids to use to cover the earring.
Hair Supplies
Extra wig caps (please see color of wig cap to purchase according to your dancers role)
Hair brush
Hair net
Hair pins (dancers cast as clowns should have white bobby pins)
Hairspray
Makeup Supplies
Basic makeup supplies
Brushes and basic makeup supplies. More information can be found on the Suggested Makeup Supplies by Role page.
Makeup remover - Many students like to use Micellar Water, Cold Cream, and / or makeup wipes to remove their makeup.
Students should not leave the theatre with any character makeup on. (Example: Mice, clowns, aviary, etc.)
Activities
Dancers will sometimes have downtime in the dressing room before going onstage. Non-messy activities are encouraged.
MadLibs
Bracelet making
Coloring sheets
Books
Scratch off paper, markers, slime, and any other messy activity are strictly prohibited.
Water & a non-messy nut-free snack
Dancers are encouraged to bring a water bottle. There is a water fountain near the dressing rooms, but not a water bottle filling station.
Pretzels, crackers, anything non-messy and nut-free dancers are permitted to have with them before they get into costume. Dancers are not permitted to eat in costume.
A note about phones and other electronic devices
Students are not permitted to use their phones in the dressing rooms. If you would like your dancer to have a photo in their costume backstage, a volunteer can take them into the hallway to take a photo. Students will need to have electronic devices kept in their bag until it is time to check out after they are done performing.
