This is not required, however it can help dancers with paler skin to avoid being washed out by the stage lights, as well as serve as a good base for eye makeup. Foundation should be applied before coming to the theatre.
Setting powder is recommended to tone down shine, as shine will appear as sweat to the audience.
Blush is very important for all dancers in party scene and carousel.
It is important to opt for matte rather than shimmer with stage makeup, as shimmer reads as sweat from the audience when reflected from the stage lights.
Eyebrow pencil is important for stage makeup, as it helps the audience see facial expressions more clearly.
Mascara is optional. It helps define the eyelashes.
A subtle/neutral lipstick that works with your dancer's skintone is important, as it helps the audience see facial expressions more clearly.
Eyeliner Options

Some dancers prefer liquid eyeliner as they do not have to use a separate brush, however it can be difficult to fix mistakes due to smearing with most liquid eyeliners.
Some dancers prefer liquid pen eyeliner as they can draw as if they are holding a pen. However, it can be difficult to fix mistakes due to smearing with most liquid eyeliners.

How to do basic Stage Makeup
Step 1:
Begin with a clean face.
You can apply foundation at this time, or just setting powder.
*Before applying makeup, apply lip balm so that lips are ready for lip color at the end of the process.
Step 2:
Apply a dark neutral color to the crease, and a lighter color to the eyelid and brown bone.
*It is important not to overly blend the shadows, as the lines help define the eyes at a distance under the stage lights.
Step 3:
Apply a thin layer of eyeliner below the lower lash line.
*You will want to make a straight line rather than a curved line. Because the eye is naturally curved, a straight line will have a curved appearance. A curved line will make the eye appear tired and droopy.
Step 4:
Apply a thin layer of eyeliner to the upper lash line.
*If you choose to do the top liner before the bottom, make sure that the liner is fully dry before opening the eyes as the liner will smudge.
Step 5:
Fill in the eyebrows with a color slightly darker than your natural hair color.
Step 6:
Apply blush and lip color.
Complete makeup look!
It is recommended to clean your brushes after use to avoid growth of bacteria in your brushes. Makeup Brush Cleaner
It is generally not a good idea to share makeup. While it is a nice sentiment to share with others, sharing makeup can be dangerous.
If a dancer forgets a makeup product that they need, please instruct them to see a teacher.
We generally have extra products on hand that are cleaned and extra brushes that are washed after each use. It is preferred that students bring their own makeup to the theatre, and ask for help with applying makeup.
