Final project: for my final project I decided on an advent calendar to solve the problem of having to buy advent calendars every single year. Having a reusable one is cheaper and allows for the ability to customize. This design is durable and made out of wood so it is very strong.
Brainstorm: for the brainstorm portion of this I was thinking about something i needed and since Christmas is right around the corner an advent calendar is the perfect idea. I originally was thinking about doing one with my sisters favorite drinks however it would be massive. I settled on a 12 day calendar with small items. I made it cute with stars and other Christmas shapes. It is a rectangular shape and it will have doors with little boxes on the inside.
this is the design for the front of the box. the lines that are cut out are faint but there is small holes in each circle for string and it is rectangular.
First prototype: My first prototype was not sucessful because I accidentally made the holes in the wrong spot and forgot to add another hole for string
this is the top and bottom of my project. this is a basic design because it will barely be seen and i do not want it to take away from the pretty design on the front
this is one side of the small boxes that will be going inside to hold the presents
As well I created a cylinder that has a radius 7cm wide and a depth of 3 inches. This was the only portion that was 3D printed.
Second Prototype (final product) : this is my final product that I will fill with the small items. The holes are all printed in the right spot and the doors are secured by zip ties. As well the door numbers are printed on the doors.
Problem: my problem was that all of our advent calendars were not reusable and always were a waste especially if we didn't like an item in it
Solution: I created an advent calendar so I could customize it for my sister. I got items to fit inside the cylinder and I customized it to my sisters likings.
SOUL reflection:
-S -what worked for me was thinking of an idea and making designs to go on the top.
-O -what didn't work for me was aligning the holes correctly before printing.
-U -I learned how to make a shape filled in laser cut so it is black and not just an outline of the shape.
-L -what prevented me from having a sucessful project was not double checking my design before printing and second guessing measurements.
WISCR - I was an insightful and critical thinker as well as self motivated. I made decisions quick and thought of quick revisions. I also came in during lunch to finish designing my project, therefore being self motivated.
