Description: We worked in small groups to build a tower that could stand for at least one minute. the structure is built only of straws and 2ft masking tape and it has to stand alone touching only the floor.
Brainstorm: At first our idea was to connect straws without tape and make them into small squares but that idea didn't work because they kept falling apart. Then one of my group members had an idea to make a table like structure and it was successful. We only used the tape for connecting small things that couldnt stand alone.
Procedure: We started off by making a structure that had four legs and was tall. We taped the structure to the floor so it could stand while we added the other straws. Next, we added another table like tower on top of the other one but it just kept falling down so we decided that just making a straight line of straws on top would be best. We continued adding straw after straw after straw until it started to tip. In the end it looked like the eiffel tower, but sadly it tipped to much so we did not win the competition.
SOUL reflection
-S -what worked for us was making tables out of straws and using small amounts of masking tape.
-O -what didn't work for us was connecting straws without tape, they kept popping out, also our group was slightly off task and sometimes people were just goofing off and not doing anything.
-U -I personally learned that you could connect straws without tape but however it is not very useful because it breaks easily.
-L -what prevented us from having a successful project was that two of our teammates were distracted and were not helping us build.
-WISCR -We were insightful and critical thinkers because when one idea didnt work we kept trying and though hard until a new idea popped into one oof our heads and we tried again and again. We were also clear communicators by informing each other if we had an idea or telling others to focus.
