Our project for the Computer Science course was to create a soap mold for February 14th. The project is to be a 3" diameter and a 1" height.
My first idea was a gaming controller for my dad with the punch line "You put the joy in joystick". I decided that creating a controller was going to be a challenge.
I used this X-Box 360 controller to base the soap on. I had to figure out how to have some texture for the controller. I quickly created a draft and had the bas height shorter to print faster. The second image is my first draft.
I think for the second draft I might print the words on the side so I won't have a base. Another idea I have is to make the controller 1.5". I will also add more detail in to the controller. I have decided on not adding text on the controller. I will make a controller that is the whole part with no sides .
I created a second design quickly and tried to print it twice, but my printer failed. It failed because the X homing axis failed, so I printed it on another printer. The print turned out okay, except some of the buttons are in the wrong position. I saved a new copy of the file to fix the issue later.
This is my 3rd print were the height is 1 inch now and 3 inches wide.
This is the mold for the 3D print it had two problems one it had holes and very thin layers. Besides that the mold was okay.
The procedure for this project was to first brainstorm ideas on what to make. Then get the idea approved by the teacher. We would start to CAD or idea in either Tinker CAD or Fusion. We would create multiple drafts by 3D printing them. The last step would be to make the mold for the soap. When I was making the mold there were some small holes, so I had to add more mold. For the soap smell I chose vanilla.
SOUL REFLECTION
Strength - I was strong on designing the controller, but I should've made the detail in at different heights.
Opportunities - I quickly designed the controller because of past experience.
Understanding - I was able to practice with multiple functions in Fusion 360, including the arc tool, sketch, and canvas.
Limitations - I think that the hardest restriction that I had was trying to perfectly base the controller on the image.
WISCR REFLECTION
I think that I was able to hit the I, S,C, and R in WISCR. The I (Insightful and critical thinkers) was because I had to figure out a way to have all the how to have all of the controllers details. S (Self - motivated) was because I had to keep on going and make many designs. The C (Clear communicators), because I was able to communicate with our teacher to figure out problems.
