Happy Thursday Eagles (I am volunteering at my kids’ elementary school tomorrow so I am sending this out today)
This is our last advocacy for the 2022-2023 school year. THANK YOU to this amazing staff for making my job easy. You roll with my mistakes, send me feedback when I need to hear it, and help me to make advocacy better and more effective every year.
BIG shout-out to Jerry Bandy for all that he and the PGTV students do with the Monday broadcast.

Happy Friday PG!!
I am so sorry about sending you the wrong Google Slides link last week. Here is the correct link in case your students get to the surveys. Please have them complete these surveys, which are important for AVID and the district. Many students have already done this, if that is your group then you can ignore this.
A BIG thank you to all the teachers who notified me about this. Please, never be afraid to speak up or tell me something, even if I get spammed by a million people.
For All Grade Levels:
Instruct students to check their Synergy mail from Friday, April 21st to open links to the Google Slides to take the surveys
Teachers, if you could remind students about the dress code:
Shirt must cover the bottom of your ribcage
Shorts need to cover the bottom of your “behind”
No see-through clothes that expose parts of your body that should be covered
No inappropriate words, messages, symbols and/or brands
Teachers may place additional rules concerning hoods, hats and sunglasses in their classroom.

Hi,
Just wanted to remind folks that we will be playing the All-Star Eagles Soccer Match this Monday 4/3 during advocacy. I know there is a survey but with the weather it was the only day that worked. Hoping that you can get the survey done and then bring your classes out the track/turf to cheer on our incredible athletes and All Stars!!! The game will start at 10:20 and end at the end of advocacy.
Please let me know if you have any questions. We will be pulling some ASB kids as well as our soccer players early from 2nd period to get ready and set up (list to follow). Appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you come cheer our kids on.
Thanks,
Keegan and Waddle

Summary of Teacher Memo:
Enclosed are the materials for conducting the 2022-23 Social Emotional Learning student survey.
· Your principal has distributed a letter from the Superintendent to parents regarding the survey. The letter instructs parents who choose to decline surveying their child on how to opt out; if they are not instructed to email you directly, your principal or site coordinator will notify you of whom not to survey. Please do not administer the survey to students whose parents opt out.
· When administering the survey to your class, please refer to the following pages of this memo for directions for administration (DFA).
· Please administer the survey on the administration date chosen by your site’s principal, no later than December 9th.
The survey should take under 10 minutes to complete. Student responses will not be used to evaluate teachers.
What you need to know:
1. The survey asks students about their experiences and attitudes related to school, their thoughts and actions when around others, and their perceptions about learning. The survey does not ask questions involving illegal activity or self-incrimination.
2. Be sure not to administer the survey to students who opt out.
Time:
Under 10 minutes to complete. Students in lower grade levels may require more time.
Survey Administration:
Please provide the following links to students and ensure they have navigated to the survey correctly:
English: https://www.research.net/r/SEL2022e
Spanish: https://www.research.net/r/SEL2022s
Vietnamese: https://www.research.net/r/SEL2022v
If students have questions about the survey items during administration, teachers are welcome to use this link to view a copy of the survey as a reference.
At the beginning of survey administration, please read the following section to students:
SAY: This survey asks about your behavior, experiences, and attitudes related to school and learning.
Please mark one answer for each question.
Some of the survey questions will ask you about specific periods of time, such as the past 30 days. Please pay careful attention to these time periods when you respond.
Please begin.
Please administer by December 9, 2022. Thank you.

Make sure that you have the CSF letters by the time advocacy has started. Student Services will be delivering these letters to teachers during 2nd period. When you get them on Monday make sure to bring them to your advocacy class for distribution. If you did not get your letters, please check in with Student Services.
Peer counselors will be dropping into advocacy classes at different times to share information about the peer counseling program.
This week in Advocacy all grades will be completing the LCAP survey. The district’s goal is 100%.
Click this link to the instructions and present the information
Students can access the survey in a variety of ways
Have students check their Synergy mail for a copy of this Google Slides presentation with links. I sent everyone an email this weekend through Synergy.
Students can scan the QR Code on their phone (QR code in the presentation)
Students can type in the URL on their Chromebook.
With remaining time, you may finish up any work that didn’t get completed the week prior. I have included information from last week’s advocacy lessons for reference

Friday we have another Lock Down Drill. Please review the following information with your advocacy classes:
DIRECT all students from hallways into classroom. Do not exit classroom for ANY reason.
INFORM students that they are not allowed to use their cell phones for calls or for text messaging during a lockdown drill or situation. Hundreds of calls being made simultaneously will not only jam the system, but will result in parents arriving at the school, which only increases the danger to everyone.
LOCK all exterior doors. If there is no lock on the door – move heaviest object in front if possible.
CLOSE windows and blinds.
STAY AWAY from all doors and windows, move students towards walls away from door.
SHUT OFF LIGHTS.
DO NOT OPEN exterior doors for any reason until an “all clear” is received.
DO NOT USE the telephone system to request information.
BE QUIET! Wait for further instructions and/or an “all clear”

On Monday we have PGTV, they will be putting on a live broadcast. To access this broadcast click on the orange cone at the start of advocacy. If you have any tech problems, please put in a HEAT ticket through your portal.
Please also make sure to take the survey from Jeff Platt on announcements:
It is vital that students see the announcements during advocacy so that students feel connected to the school and know about the events. Many students on campus work hard to put on the announcements, compete in sports and run clubs and activities. Showing the announcements amplifies students’ voices on campus and highlights many of their achievements. These students greatly appreciate all of the work you put in to showing these announcements.

Happy Friday Eagles,
Here is our agenda for Advocacy on Monday, August 22, 2022
Live broadcast of announcements 2 minutes after the bell rings. Click on the orange cone on your desktop.
Additional pre-recorded announcements
Finish up the Google Form and video reviewing policies at PGHS. Your students must be logged into their @egusd.net account to complete this Google Form. Administration needs to have a record of students completing this.
Some classes have completed the Google Form and video, so they will have extra time. If that is your class, with remaining time, play a team-building game (get to know their names, ask about their school year, etc.) If you want a list of team-building games/activities, click on the liked text in the black word bubble on slide #1.
This will take you to an advocacy team-building website with links to games and icebreakers.
FRESHMEN:
Complete the above agenda, but there is also a video on slide #5 for the Freshmen to view. This is a recording of highlights from Freshmen Orientation.
SENIORS:
Complete the above agenda, but there is also a special video on slide #6 for the Seniors to view. I recorded several seniors at graduation last year advising the class of 2023. I hope this year's seniors like it and this becomes a tradition.
ASB will come to your room to hand out nomination ballots for Homecoming Royalty.

IMPORTANT:
Advocacy next week will be a special assembly, and we are on a different schedule—more information to follow next week.
Here is more information:
Dear Parent or Guardian,
On Monday, August 29, 2022, PGHS will be participating in the Sacramento County Future Focused: Fentanyl Education and Awareness Program. This presentation will be from 10:00am - 11:25am here at PGHS.
This program is designed to increase education and awareness about Fentanyl and its associated effects. There will be a number of guest speakers involved in the treatment, study, prosecution and outreach surrounding fentanyl use. Seniors and Juniors will be viewing the presentation in person in our gym. Sophomores and Freshmen will be viewing via live screening in their classrooms.
The information in this assembly is informational and designed to give students background on the subject through guest speakers to help prevent unnecessary involvment with Fentanyl. The presentations may be filmed for future use and a very small portion of students may have thel opportunity to volunteer to be interviewed. If you would prefer your child NOT attend, please email jplatt@egusd.net by August 24. These students will be given a place to complete academic homework in lieu of the assembly.
If you have any questions, please email jplatt@egusd.net for more information.
Thank you,
Pleasant Grove High School

This is our first advocacy of the school year, as well our first under this new format. Please give me any feedback that you have and understand that we can only grow and get better from here. There are a lot of things that we (Advocacy, PGTV, ASB and Athletics) want to achieve this year in advocacy, but it might take some time to grow and get a solid program up and running. I appreciate any grace you give me in this.
