Here is a link to the notes from the Student Senate Meeting in April. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YBv97nzqFMkNxR547ncIZVyMEjmTsYT4aP3Ml2g2uIE/edit?usp=sharing
Please review this with your class. PG will continue the Student Senate next year with one meeting per quarter. Thank you for support with this new program.
Please show your students the Textbook Return Schedule: LINK HERE. Have students make a note of their textbook return times. It is very important that you review all of this library information with students because 1. Student don’t read their synergy email and 2. It will make the librarians’ jobs a tiny bit easier (and they already work so hard 😊)
Please also review the following:
Tell students to opener their Chromebook or cellphone to follow directions (slide 3 link) how to look up your library account online to see which books to return.”
SHOW Advocacy class these slides > Directions: Textbooks to Return/Not + How to Look up Your Library Account
Announce “the library’s CLOSED rest of school year for Testing & Textbook Collection. Textbook window service only 7:30-3:20.
Daily Chromebook Loaners available at Admin. Office Windows.”
Show the following video: https://ca.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/nvmin-sci-clickbait/fact-or-cap-how-to-deal-with-clickbait-misinformation-nation/ This will be the LAST lesson on Digital Citizenship tat PG needs to complete to be compliant with district expectations.
With extra time discuss the video. 1) Have you ever fallen victim to “click bait” 2) Have you shared an article with someone based online on the headline? 3) Have you fallen victim to “fake news”?
May 5, 2022
There is a junior assembly during advocacy. Please bring your students to the Big Gym as soon as the bell rings.
April 14, 2022
After your Student Senators check in with you send them to the Black Box Theater for the Student Senate meeting ASAP (Thanks Gabe, you’re the best!).
Please share the following schedule with all of your students. You can also project THIS link and have the students take a picture so that it is saved in their phone.
Jerry Bandy will send out the link to PGTV (Thanks Jerry, you’re also the best!). Please show the PGTV broadcast, which includes videos of students running for ASB offices.
Don’t worry about Student Senators who will miss the schedule review and PGTV, I will send out an email to the whole school with a link to the ASB videos and the schedule. I will also announce at the Student Senate Meeting for the Senators to look out for that email.
April 7, 2022
This week’s advocacy is going to focus on the multicultural assembly that is on Friday, as well as gather information for the last student senate meeting of the school year
You can either teach this Google Slides lesson giving a preview of the multicultural assembly, or you can play a short video showing the same information:
Video Link (3:52)
Please show this video on CPR created by the Red Cross Club on campus
Please ask your Student Senator to collect questions, concerns, etc. for the Student Senate meeting next week. Please fill out this Google Form to help administration best address any questions, comments, concerns.
REMINDERS
Teachers: Please remind teachers to pick up any reflection window notices from their boxes to distribute to their students. If the information is incorrect (ie they turned in their reflection window & shouldn’t get deductions) have them write that on the yellow form and return it to the teacher. Send all the correction notices up to the office so that we can make adjustments to their scores.
9-11th : The Summative Letter is due April 8th via Google Form.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1sjHQyF3XLaMIGvYG_t_oibW3Jvps4XmAl92Os4borqM/edit#slide=id.p
Students need to be sure to write to the correct prompt (graduate profile skills). We had several submitted that talk about strengths, growths or future plans. Letters must meet the minimum word count to be scored (650 words for 9th grade, 850 words for 10th -11th graders)
If any students have any questions, please tell them to come to the admin. Office.
March 31, 2022
Your classes are going to be working on the Summative Letter. You have a few choices, you can directly teach this lesson, or you can direct the students to check their synergy mail (I sent this Google Slides to all 9-11th graders with a reminder to bring their chrome books) and they can be self-directed on how to write the letter. Please mention that the content of the summative letter has changed and they NEED to review the Google Slides before attempting to write the letter.
Link Crew Leaders will be coming into 9th grade classes to advise the 9th graders on writing the letter.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1sjHQyF3XLaMIGvYG_t_oibW3Jvps4XmAl92Os4borqM/edit#slide=id.p

PGHS Kindness “Make a Wish” LINK CREW and ASB presentation, see information below. ASB and Link Crew are trying to get our students in every classroom to present this.
Kindness at PGHS Script: Slide #3
Link Crew and ASB students will be coming to your advocacy classes Thursday to do you “Make A Wish” activity to help start the activities..
Below is the script.
WE might have some students who aren’t comfortable presenting this script and therefore might ask you to do it… I will send a reminder about this Wednesday.
Good morning! This activity is called Make-A-Wish. This is to help assist ASB in creating the gifts to be delivered to our students during Kindness Week the first week of December. We are requesting that everyone take a moment and write down a wish for anyone you think is important. Please be sure to write your full name and ID number on the front of the star and include the full name and grade of anyone you may be wishing for on the back of the star along with the wish. It never hurts to give us some background on why you think your wish should be met. If there is not enough space on the star to tell your story you can attach the star to another piece of paper. We will collect these stars and then distribute the wishes the first week of December. Thank you!
Advocacy teachers… Please collect the STARS and then do one of 2 things…
· Send a trusted student with the STARS to the ASB room…
· Keep them and go through them to see if you wish to meet any of the wishes and then send the rest to ASB when you are done (or put them in Mr. Platt’s box in the office).
Please let me (Mr. Platt) know if you have any questions.
Also please let us know if you are meeting wishes for your class.
That way we don’t get duplicates…
You can deliver your wishes any time during Kindness Week… or we can deliver for you.
Last time we did this 500 wishes were granted… We are hoping to maintain that level again this year..
Thanks for your support..

Hey Eagles,
Happy Wednesday. For Advocacy this week we are trying something new, a PGHS Student Senate. Every advocacy class will have a Student Senator. The Senate will meet 3 times in a school year. Please review the Google Slides presentation with your students and have your class choose a Senator. Every class will be different in choosing a Senator, some classes might have several volunteers, others might not have any volunteers. Please determine how your class will choose the Senator:
A secret vote with pieces of scrap paper
Nominations
Etc….
The first Student Senate meeting will be next Thursday during Advocacy (location TBD, more than likely the quad or big gym). After the Senator is chosen, please have students share with the Senator any concerns, questions, issues that they want their Senator to share at the Senate meeting.

If you want things to be easy, show this Google Slides: Opening Day. However, see below on making sure you can watch the guest speaker on your computer.
BREAKDOWN of the FIRST DAY:
Pass out schedules
1. Review schedule change information with students (on the August 12 Opening Day Procedures Link)
2. Have students fill out this info sheet HERE. You can display THIS Google Slides with a QR code.
3. Show PBIS student created video HERE
4. Read message from administration regarding the bells (see below, "Dear PGHS Students")
5. Spend some time getting to know your students – Icebreaker Activities (See link below)
Dear PGHS Students,
In an effort to create a more positive welcoming school environment this year, we are going to turn off the tardy bells during the first quarter. 2 minutes before each class begins, a bell will sound to alert you to head to class. You will be responsible for getting to each of your classes on time each day. That means you will need to use your watch, your phone and/or the warning bells to ensure you are not late to class.

Information on the Guest Speaker at 8:28
Good Afternoon Staff-
We are excited to welcome Keith Hawkins back to PGHS! Many of you may have had the opportunity to hear Keith Hawkins speak at PGHS Senior BBQ in past years. He is a phenomenal speaker who will welcome us all back to campus with his inspirational message on the 1st day of school. Since we are not allowed to gather in large groups, Keith will present in the PGHS studio and his presentation will be streamed into all Advocacy classes (please review Jerry Bandy’s message below).
A brief intro:
Keith Hawkins is a national youth speaker that addresses over 400,000 students, educators, business owners, and parents each year. Keith has addressed the United Nations Global Summit, he has been interviewed by Time Magazine, he is featured in a national communication book called, Between One and Many, and he has co-authored the books entitled, Teen Power and Beyond and Go M.A.D.
Keith has dedicated his life and work to help improve the human race by helping them strive for personal change in their lives. Today Keith is speaking about the challenges we face today and how we can, not just persevere through them but thrive in spite of them.
Important message from Jerry Bandy:
I know there were several people last spring whose desktop PGTV shortcut didn’t work properly, so before the end of the day Tuesday, please verify that your link is working. If you double-click the orange-safety-cone icon on your desktop, you should see and hear an old PGTV feed.
If you neither see nor hear anything, please let us know as soon as possible. Jeff Platt et al. will be presenting important information during Advocacy via the PGTV video stream, and your students will need to see and hear the presentations.
PBIS Toolbox
If you need any additional student supports this school year (especially day 1 and 2) please see this wonderful toolbox that Timeka put together HERE, found under the PBIS tab in the Google Classroom
