Our Foundation Degrees, delivered in partnership with the University of Plymouth, are equivalent to studying for the first two years of an Honours Degree at university. They are designed in collaboration with employers and offer you the opportunity to combine academic study with the skills and attributes needed in the workplace.
When studied full-time, foundation degrees are two-year courses. Many of our courses are also offered on a part-time basis (usually three years), which can provide greater flexibility and the opportunity to carry on with work while you study. Some employers fund student fees and provide time to study where the course is considered of relevance to their business.
Petroc’s foundation degree courses are designed with built-in progression routes to Honours Degrees at the University of Plymouth and other institutions, including Petroc.
Assessment for our degrees is carried out using a variety of methods including exams and essays, practical and creative tasks presentations, reflective journals and research and project work.
We offer the following Foundation Degrees:
Our BA and BSc Honours Degree programmes are awarded by either the University of Plymouth or the University of Bolton.
We are incredibly proud of our graduates, many of whom have gone on to post-graduate study, to qualify as teachers and socialworkers, develop their own businesses or progress in their roles as graduate employees.

An apprenticeship is a job with an accompanying skills development programme which has been designed by employers in the sector. It allows you to gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with functional and personal skills required for your immediate job and future career. The required knowledge and skills are acquired through a mixture of learning in the workplace and off-the-job training.
Higher and degree apprenticeships are available at Petroc at Levels 4 and 5. They combine work with study and may include a work-based, academic or combined qualification relevant to the industry. Levels 4 and 5 are equivalent to a HNC/Diploma or a Foundation Degree, Level 6 is equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and Level 7 is equivalent to a Master’s Degree. Higher and degree apprenticeships were introduced to provide employers with the high-level skills most critical for growth. Developed by employers for employers, higher and degree apprenticeships enable businesses to train more of their employees in the high-level industry-specific skills that are critical for growth in the UK and internationally.
