Grace, Level 2 Hairdressing
"I've always wanted to do hairdressing and I find it to be so therapeutic. It was an obvious choice of mine to study at Petroc college due to its high achievers and many people I know have studied here and achieved great things!
"During my course I have learnt a wide variety of things such as setting hair, styling hair, cutting and colouring hair too plus many other things! My group is lovely and my lecturer Leanna is a very friendly, approachable and professional teacher! I hope In the near future all my qualifications will enable me to deliver wedding packages, offering all my skills learnt at Petroc."
Tia, Hairdressing, Level 3
"I chose to come to Petroc as it was easy to travel to, and has a very up to date and modern salon with lots of facilities.
I never really thought of hairdressing as a career but after leaving school I was a little unsure what to do so decided to sign up for the first course. Once I started I soon realised that this was the best decision I’ve made, I love working with hair and am grateful for the opportunities this course has given me.
Although it’s rewarding and a lot of fun, it’s very hard work with a lot of written work - but it’s made easier with the help of the teachers.
I enjoy everything about Petroc, particularly working in the Petroc salon as part of the course and gaining experience and confidence. My highlight of the course so far has been taking part in a competition and seeing other people’s entries.
When I leave college I plan to work full-time in a salon and, in the future, owning my own salon."
Tracey, a previous Petroc learner, has opened her own Barbers!
Vicky studied Level 3 Hairdressing and has recently opened her own Salon
Emily, has recently opened Dahlia Rose Hair in Tiverton!
“I miss college and if it wasn’t for my lecturer Tara, pushing me at the beginning I really wouldn’t be where I am now”.
"Hairdressing has always been a passion of mine ever since I was young and my aunty has been a hairdresser all of her life, with her own business in London, so she has been my role model.
My favourite topic of hairdressing is cutting hair - I feel like you can create so much with just a haircut and there are so many different styles and techniques that can be achieved with cutting.
Lauren, Hairdressing, Level 3
The biggest highlight of my course so far was a competition I participated in with Concept Hair magazine in January 2020. I came third place out of the whole of the south west in an Avant Garde hair up heat.
I really enjoy the resources that we’re supplied with and the experience to work with real clients. I also enjoyed working with other students that have the same interest as me and learning from the lecture’s that work or own a business in the hair industry.
After I finish my Level 3 course, I would like to advance my knowledge on a Level 3 Barbering course with Petroc. I would then like to proceed with my education and do different courses in London. I would also like to own my own business one day and also work in America for a couple years. I would also love to create my own product range as well."
