Learners who participate in the Health & Care Academy gain a genuine insight into frontline healthcare work. By shadowing and supporting professionals at North Devon District Hospital, you will have the opportunity to interact with patients and staff in a variety of settings - ranging from theatres to podiatry - enabling you to gain experience across the breadth of primary healthcare provision. This fantastic opportunity is available to learners studying Level 3 Health and Social Care.

To join our Aspire Programme, students need to demonstrate dedication to developing your knowledge in the subject area, commitment, and a track record of high predicted grades and a good record of achievements at school. Humanities This is an exciting opportunity for students seeking to more deeply explore subjects such as English, History, Philosophy and Politics. The programme will challenge how they see the world and will open up the opportunity for them to stretch their mind and learn how to debate the great questions of our time. This programme is perfect for anyone studying English, History, Classical Civilisation or Modern Foreign Languages. They will be expected to have achieved seven Grade 7's at GCSE, however, a thirst for knowledge and dedication to an aspirational future are the most important entry requirements.

STEM

This programme is designed for students who are passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and who want to enhance their understanding of the scientific world. It is aimed at anyone studying subjects such as Psychology, Environmental Science and Geography. You will be expected to have achieved seven Grade 7s at GCSE, however, a thirst for knowledge and dedication to an aspirational future are the most important entry requirements.

SUSTAINABILITY

Human life is intricately connected to both the living and physical planet. In this programme you will explore the ever-evolving topic of sustainability and environmental science. You will discover how human exploitation of resources is altering natural processes and critically examine sustainable solutions provided by both technology and social sciences. This programme is suitable for anyone studying Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Law, Business, Economics, Politics, Psychology, Photography and Art & Design, but is open to anyone with an interest in the environment.

VETMED

This specific programme is designed for students aspiring to achieve careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science and Nursing. You will have the opportunity to be part of a ground-breaking and prestigious initiative developed by Petroc and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust with support from Health Education South West, providing real-life ‘as it happens’ work placement opportunities. You will be expected to have achieved seven grade 7s at GCSE, however, a thirst for knowledge and dedication to an aspirational future are the most important entry requirements.
