It is already the second day of the new year - January 2. Time passes. Yet, we know that for everything there is a season, a time of consideration. Down through the ages each generation has heard or read from Solomon's writings (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8):

There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven:

a time to give birth and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to uproot;

a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to tear down and a time to build;

a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance;

a time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace and a time to avoid embracing;

a time to search and a time to count as lost; a time to keep and a time to throw away;

a time to tear and a time to sew; a time to be silent and a time to speak;

a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.

Ok- so I get it, seasons come and go. The cycle repeats. How do I apply that to my life and more importantly, how will others see Christ reflected in my life? There is one cycle that every Christ-follower is on - sanctification, a continual "being saved" or being transformed into the image of Christ. We are transformed by the Word. The Word is Christ. It is spending time with Him in prayer and hearing His words. (Consider the book of Revelation as Christ speaks to the church - "he who has an ear, let him hear".) We hear Him in prayer. We hear Him as He speaks through His creation. He speaks out through reading the Bible and seeking counsel from other Christians.

One of the easiest ways to hear Him by having your "mind renewed" by reading His word. John Piper's post from yesterday "How Do I Become Passionate About Bible Reading?", mentions 3 ways God uses His Word.

  1. By the Scriptures, God grows us up into salvation. 1 Peter 1:23–2:3

    1. The miracle of new birth

    2. Tasting that the Lord is good

    3. Continuously desire spiritual food of the Word

    4. Desire it so that you will grow up into salvation

  2. Through the Bible, God brings us home James 1:18, 21

    1. We are brought forth by the word

    2. Long for the word

    3. grow up into salvation

  3. By His words, God gives life John 6:63

    1. Jesus's words are life.

I will end this by encouraging you to be in the word, to practice as a daily habit. Find a time, whether early in the morning with a cup of coffee or late at night as you reflect on His grace for the day, to spend together as a couple of intimate friends. You will be blessed as you find that season of the day to be with Him. 📣
