Ultimate Frisbee Rules
Rule of 3’s
- 3 feet away from opponent with frisbee
- Approximately an arms length distance away
- 3 seconds to get rid of frisbee
- Count only starts when the defending is directly “marking” or defending the opponent holding the frisbee
- 3 “Mississippi” count can only be made by defender on the frisbee and must be made out loud
- 3 steps are allowed only to break down and come to a stop
- Momentum steps only! (not catch - stop - take 3 steps)
Other Rules
- Game starts with one team “throwing off” from their end zone to the opponent as far as possible. The entire team must be in the end zone with the thrower for the “thrown off”
- Once the throw off is caught or lands, the offense can immediately start moving the frisbee
- Passes can be completed in any direction
- An incomplete pass, blocked pass, intercepted pass or 3 second count all result in a turnover and the opponent immediately gets possession
- Each score is worth 1 point
- A completed catch requires at least 1 foot lands in bounds
- Incomplete passes thrown out of bounds must be walked back onto the field before advancing the frisbee downfield
- Self-Officiating: Players are responsible for officiating their own games and adhering to all rules. Players resolve their own disputes and if a dispute cannot be agreed upon - Rock Paper Scissors once
- NO physical contact at any time
- Sportsmanship is required - teams will high five each other before shifting to their next game
