Flag Football Rules
1. Scoring Touchdown – when the player with the ball crosses the goal line. (1 point)
2. Kickoff- Start Game and after each Score the ball will be placed at the Blue Line
3. 4 plays for offense- On the 4th down the team can choose to stick with the ball and try and get a first down or give the ball back to the other team for them to start at their own Blue Line
4. ways for a first down-
1. When you advance the ball past the Hash Marks
5. Flags 1. Must be worn outside clothing
2. Must be around the waist and flags must be in the back
3. Must be clasped properly
4. If your flag falls off during play the play is dead where the flag drops(if it comes off before you catch a pass you can’t advance the ball once caught)
6. Offense 1. No Flag guarding with hands
2. Must center the ball from the ground to another player to start each play
3. All players are eligible receivers
4. All fumbles are dead ball and the play ends
5. Uneven teams –Team with more players the QB can not run with ball.
6. Lateral pass only behind the line of scrimmage
7. Defense 1. Must count out loud 5 Mississippi before you can cross the line of scrimmage
*Lateral or handoff in backfield eliminates the need to count
2. Can not hold player or clothing to pull the flag
8. Penalties
1. Off sides, holding, Illegal Blocking (no grabbing or pushing), improper flag wearing:
a. If the offensive commits the foul the team goes back to line of scrimmage and lose a down
-Incomplete Pass/negative yards defense can decline penalty, no replay down
b. If defense commits foul the offense gets the positive yards and replays the down
2. Unnecessary roughness –
a. if offense commits then they go back to own Blue Line
b. if defense commits then 1st and goal from the Blue Line(unless in the end zone then a TD)
Term-
Line of Scrimmage-is an imaginary transverse line (across the width of the football field) beyond which a team cannot cross until the next play has begun. Its location is based on the spot where the ball is placed after the end of the most recent play.
