The aim of badminton is to hit the birdie with your racket so that it passes over the net inside your opponent’s half of the court.
- The COURT consists of the white and grey lines on the court. Grey on the sidelines and white/blue blue basketball baseline for the backlines or baseline
- The SERVE must be made with an underhand stroke and on a diagonal. If you are playing doubles, you and your partner must move from one side to the other.
Scoring
- A point is scored when you SUCCESSFULLY hit the birdie over the net and land it in your opponent's court before they hit it. A point can also be given when your opponent hits the birdie into the net or outside of the parameters.
- To win a game, you must reach 21 points before your opponent. To win an overall game, you are required to win by 2 points. For example, if you are tied 20-20 with an opponent, you would have to win 22-20 in order for the game to be over.
Additional Rules
- A game can take place with either two (singles) or four (doubles) players.
- Once the birdie is “live” then a player ma move around the court and are permitted to hit the shuttlecock from out of the playing area.
- If a player touches the net with any part of their body or racket, then it is a fault and the opponent receives the point.
