9th – Health/Physical Education I
10th – Driver Education/Physical Education II
11th – Family Life/Physical Education III
12th – First Aid and CPR/ Physical Education IV
Students will have physical education 5 days per week, 3 marking periods, for the duration of the school year. They will be required to change into appropriate clothing for physical activity. Examples would be, sweat pants, shorts, and tee shirts. Sneakers that are securely fastened are also required. No one may participate in jeans, tank tops, school clothes, or shoes with lifts or heels. Students must remove all jewelry prior to participation in class. Students are issued locks as freshmen that they are to use for their four years of high school. Locks are to be used during PE class to lock personal items.
Students will be participating in approximately four skill units over the course of the semester. At the culmination of the unit, they will be assessed on their knowledge and understanding of skills, terminology, rules, scoring, and history in their particular skill unit. Students will also be graded throughout the unit based on participation, adherence to rules, time on task, and overall behavior. Students who are unprepared for class will lose points off their total grade. Medically excused students will be given a written assignment to be completed during class, which will be factored into their participation grade for that day.
Students unable to participate over an extended period of time due to medical reasons will be assigned medical projects for each 2 weeks they are sidelined from class. Projects are to be turned in on a weekly basis and should represent a week’s worth of class work at a high school level. Projects can be found under the PE department website.
Students must pass four years of physical education and health in order to graduate high school. Please make every effort to encourage your son or daughter to be prepared for physical education and health class. We have planned a wide range of activities that promote good health and a lifetime of fitness.
All students will receive a weekly grade.
Students have the potential to earn 5 points a day
2 points are tied to participating in the warm-up activity
3 points are tied to participating in the primary activity for the day
If a student does not change into physical education attire, they will receive 0 points for that day
The weekly grade will reflect the number days the class attended that week. If for any reason there is an event or activity going on during physical education, that will NOT count against their grade for the week.
Students are asked to change into workout apparel for physical education class. Workout attire would include:
Tshirt/Long Sleeve
Shorts/Sweatpants/Leggings
Sneakers with laces
Sweatshirts for colder months
Students may wear their UNIFORM TOP on game days but they must change into shorts, sweatpants, or leggings.
All students will receive a gym locker and lock. These are given to your child(ren) before we start physical education. Students are asked to keep their belongings (backpack, cellphones, airpods, etc) locked in their locker at all times. Students will hand these locks back in at the end of the school year and they will receive the same lock for all 4 years.
If a student does not return their gym lock at the end of the year, they have to pay a fine of $5 to replace the lost lock.
Students are considered medically excused via a doctor’s note or a note from the school nurse. Any student, who is medically excused, for up to 2 weeks, must complete one of the short term medical assignments for each day they are out of P.E. class. These assignments are posted on PE web page and hard copy in the nurse’s office. If a student is medically excused for more than 2 weeks they must complete the “PE Long Term Medical Assignment.” Your child's teacher will speak with the student to go over what assignment is necessary.
Cell phones should not be out or in view during class time unless you are asked to use your cell phones for a class activity. Students are asked to keep their cellphones in their gym lockers during their class period.
It is expected that you will participate actively in class activities and work to the best of your ability with activities or skill development.
RESPECT yourself, your classmates, your teacher, your classroom.
