A good physical education program is an integral part of the total education program and is essential to the continuing growth and development of each student. Learning environments must provide students with opportunities that will increase their self-worth and cultivate a positive attitude towards other people both in school and at home.
A physical education curriculum must address the needs of many children at different skill levels. Primarily, children need a variety of activities targeted to develop their skills, understanding, and motivation needed to maintain a fitness level for effective work and play. It should provide an ideal way to connect theory lessons with practical application. The program will assist students in developing personal health, fitness, and activity goals leading to a personal health and fitness lifestyle plan. It will also address participation in cooperative activities designed to develop interpersonal relationships, individual initiatives, and individual growth. The program will also focus on fostering the significance of teamwork. Teamwork provides students the necessary tools they can carry with them on or off the playing fields for the rest of their adult lives.
The physical education curriculum for grades 9-12 offers students a wide range of physical activities and provides many opportunities for success. The curriculum enhances each student’s self concept, and stresses the importance of teamwork.
