When you incorporate the 5 C's in your lessons, you are creating a chance for deep understanding for your students. Creating lessons where you pose the question first open curiosity to hook your students into the lesson. Students need to be able to make connections for themselves to gain deep understanding and it is important to have them connect to the real-world and interests if possible. This shows the value in the mathematics. It is important to adequately challenge your students. It is best to use low floor high ceiling lessons. This means that everyone is able to do the lesson, but can be adequately challenged in different areas to promote learning and growth. Giving a chance for the students to show their creative side will also enhance the learning experience. This can range from letting students demonstrate multiple solutions methods or ideas to letting the students show off other skills like their artistic side. The last C may be one of the most important. It is a 21st century skill to be able to collaborate and work as a team. Breaking away from students doing rote problems and allowing the students to explore and work together is a great way to invite mathematics conversations that enhance the students' understandings.
