Introduction to Career and Technical Education
Grade: 9-12
2 Semesters (1 Credit)
Prerequisite: Students must receive a passing grade the first semester in order to continue to the second semester or teacher approval
This class is designed to provide a small sampling of the different facets of Career Technical Education (CTE). This includes safety, woodworking, finishing, and problem solving activities. Students must pass all safety tests (maximum three attempts on each test), and adhere to all safety procedures when using tools and equipment.
Architecture and Drafting Design
Grade: 10-12
2 Semesters (1 Credit)
Prerequisite: "C" or higher in Introduction to Career and Technical Education
This course is designed to provide students the skills necessary to draft and design various projects using multiple Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) platforms. These include Google Sketch Up, Auto CAD, and software common in manufacturing. Students will design several architectural items including a house, apartment, and a sustainable dwelling. Students will learn to physically draw orthographically and isometrically, as well as learn to draw floor plans and cabinets as such in a 1/4" scale. They will also use sketch-up to learn how to translate physical drawings into a computer rendering. This course will benefit students interested in careers such as: Draftsperson, CNC Operator, Engineer, Architect, and Project Manager.
Rough Frame Carpentry
Grade: 10-12
2 Semesters (1 Credit)
Prerequisite: “C” or higher in Woodworking/Cabinet Making and/or teacher recommendation
The Rough Frame Carpentry course will provide students with knowledge of various types and grades of woods, proper and safe use of hand and power tools, and site selection preparation, but place a special emphasis on construction methods applicable to floor, wall, roof, and/or stair framing. Course content may also include insulation installation and painting.
Woodworking/Cabinet Making
Grade: 10-12
2 Semesters (1 Credit)
Prerequisite: Introduction to Career and Technical Education; students must earn a passing grade in the first semester in order to continue to the second semester or teacher approval
This course is a laboratory class designed to prepare students to be “Work ready” in the area of woodworking and cabinet making. Students will learn shop safety, advanced techniques, and cabinet making skills. This course will benefit students interested in careers such as: Cabinet Maker, Carpenter, Shop Foreman, and Project Manager.
