Continuing the objective of learning skills to improve home and family living within a global society, the 7th grade Family and Consumer Sciences course concentrates on skills that promote independence. Principles of clothing cost and care, along with basic sewing machine skills are introduced. Hand Sewing skills are also revisited and reinforced. Food preparation techniques, nutrition basics and financial literacy learned in the 6th grade are broadened. FCS uses a practical approach to teach skills to help students manage their lives and promote independence through a better understanding of wise decision making and character education concepts to succeed in a diverse society and to prepare them for future career choices.
