The 6th grade course is an introduction to Family and Consumer Sciences. The students in the middle school community learn the concepts and skills necessary for improving home and family living within today’s global society. The course focuses on skills that foster independence. Topics of child care, which includes the fundamentals of babysitting, preparation of simple healthy snacks and basic hand sewing skills to produce a piggy bank are taught in this class. Students focus on financial literacy and gain an understanding of the difference between wants and needs and saving money to reach both short-term and long-term goals.
