Background:
You are a graphic designer working for a design agency in New York City. You have been hired to create a colorful, contemporary magazine article layout that illustrates good use of typography, the elements and principles of design, and applies desktop publishing skills and features. You will use desktop publishing software to create this product and ensure that it has a modern design that will appeal to young adults.
Researching is one of the keys to understanding this project and generating layout ideas and techniques. Students who focus initial time on research almost always become more successful with this project.
Choose A Topic:
Go to a site and find an article that is relevant to you and copy the text of the article to a document. Then go find grahics and images that would complement the article. Remember, We are doing the layout only.
Final Steps:
Once you have instructor approval on Topic, begin to populate the objects. Ensure that when placing images you resize proportionally and use the crop feature. Do not distort aspect ratios. Pay particular attention to the small details, such as creating dynamic pull quotes, attractive headers/footers, and using details such as small splashes of color to enhance the design. Be sure to create Heading and subheadings, but can use placeholder text for all else.
You must demonstrate the following in your design:
Grid Design
Graphics – 1 dominant graphic and at least 1 additional graphic
Bleed
Caption
Dropped cap
Kicker or deck
Pull quote
End mark
Main heading
Subheading
Byline
Body
Running header
Running footer – must include page numbers
When you have completed your project, you will export as a PDF and turn in via Google Classroom.
