Services
RC Service Offerings
Research Computing (RC) offers a wide range of services to the PSU community:
System Support for central computational research systems, including standard and parallel compute applications.
Software Support for various computational and scientific software hosted on central research computing systems, including HPC applications.
Data Storage for researchers and faculty.
Database Systems and management.
User Support on research computational systems.
Storage with Backups
Primary storage - excellent for important data that has to be backed up.
NetApp - 165 TB dedicated to research computing
Network Volumes - I:\\Research (Windows), smb://share.research.pdx.edu (Mac)
NFS volumes: /vol/share , /home , /vol/apps to computational systems
Off-site backups - daily **
Snapshots - hourly, daily, weekly, quarterly, yearly **
For more on snapshots, refer to here.

Storage WITHOUT Backups
Scratch volume - temporary storage location for computational work
470TB+ available
70TB+ /workspace
Coeus HPC cluster - /scratch (170 TB)
Gaia HPC cluster - /data (84 TB)
No backups. No quota. First in, First out deletion rules.
RC provides MySQL and PostgreSQL open source database management systems. RC does not typically support other DBMS systems (e.g. Oracle and MSSQL) in a research context, Applications which must use currently unsupported DBMS can be considered, but would require grant or other funding for licenses, hardware, and support.
If you need a database for a research project or application, please create a request ticket by emailing help-rc@pdx.edu. If you need a database for a web application, please use the Website Creation or Access Request Form.
RC provides an ArcGIS Server cluster for serving online maps and hosting WMS, WFS services.
Research Networking and Science Perimeter Network Infrastructure
Research and Innovation Network (RAIN)
10 Gbps Virtual network to most PSU research buildings
1 Gbps to most research desktops with capacity for 10 Gbps to certain end-systems (e.g. data acquisition equipment, instrumentation, Data Transfer Nodes)
Science Perimeter Network Infrastructure
Data transfer nodes (DTN) with over 40TB for large data transfer
10 Gbps alternate route to Internet2 (DWDM)
Funded by National Science Foundation Campus CyberInfrastructure - Data, Networking, Innovation (CC-DNI) award and State of Oregon investment.
