What is identity? What is YOUR identity? What is the Canadian Identity? How was this country formed? What should we do now to right the wrongs of the past that have shaped the nation we live in today? How can we be better?
The 100th Meridian is in fact where the Great Plains begin. In Canada, it runs through the Province of Manitoba, close to the border of Ontario and Kenora where the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School was located...the one Chanie Wenjack ran away from. See the maps below showing where he lived and where his life ended tragically.
The red pin shows Brampton. Looking north on the map you can see where Marten Falls and the Ogoki Post are located, the home of Chanie Wenjack. The distance from Brampton is 994 km.
Even today, GoogleMaps can't determine a route from Kenora where the school was located to Marten Falls. You can only fly. The body of water you see is the northern coast of Lake Superior. Compare the two maps. Find the approximate location of the 100th Meridian.
