Vocational 2 Program
The Vocational 2 Program:
"Students who are suitable for the Vocational 2 program have overall cognitive abilities that fall between the 2nd and 16th percentiles generally, but may possibly be higher. Academically, such students function more than two years behind in terms of academic skills but are above grade 3, typically between grades 4-6 in terms of reading and math skills." (Peel District School Board, Vocational Admission Guidelines, 2016-2017)
The Vocational 2 Program:
focuses on the acquisition of basic literacy and numeracy skills through experiential learning opportunities
has practical application of knowledge related to employment opportunities
provides development of specific skills for the workplace • offers locally developed and/or workplace courses
has many choices of site specific "hands-on" and experiential learning courses that support students to complete the 30 credits required for the achievement of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
results in an OSSD – 30 credits, passing the OSSLT or completion of the Ontario Literacy Course (OLC) and requires 40 hours of Community Service
students are expected to be mostly independent in terms of their ability to follow a timetable, move from class-to-class and attend school
It should be noted that the Vocational 2 program is being phased out as per the Peel District School Board's update from May 10, 2021. The grade 9s in the 2021-2022 school year will be the final group of Vocational 2 students.
