For faculty whose courses are included in the CBL Program’s database, they will receive an invitation to register.
The registration will also be found in the Community-Based Learning Faculty GivePulse group.
When registering instructors will be asked to:
Provide basic information about their course(s) and the CBL assignment/project
(They will have the option to upload your syllabus and/or your CBL project/assignment description)
Agree to CBL Instructor Expectations
Acknowledge CBL Learning Agreement Expectations of Student, Community Partner, and Instructor
If you are teaching different courses with a CBL assignment/project, you will be able to include all the CRNs in your registration.
Once your CRNs are approved, the CBL Program will:
Tag CRN in Banner in order to sync w/GivePulse
Set up a page in GivePulse for your CRN which will have:
Instructions for students
CRN specific CBL Learning Agreement and Liability Waiver
Contact you to discuss any specific arrangements needed for your course based on your project/assignment parameters.
Customizing details shared on your CRN's GivePuse page
Setting up course specific community engagement opportunities
Creating online survey or forms
As instructors, we expect that you will be going over the CBL assignment/project description and learning objectives with students.
The CBL Program will provide a general CBL & GivePulse Orientation For students who plan to complete a CBL assignment/project will need to register with the CBL Program.
The orientation is meant to provide students with:
Information about COVID-19 Exposure Communication
Steps they need to get started
And Resources and tools to assist them in connecting with community partners, tracking and reporting their impacts
Due to limited staffing, it is preferred that instructors choose to have students watch a pre recorded orientation and there will be drop in office hours for students who might need additional support
Instructors do have the option to schedule an in class orientation, but if schedules can’t be accommodate then the recording will be made available to their classes instead
For students who plan to complete a CBL assignment/project will need to register with the CBL Program. In general, all registrations will be approved, but the CBL Program will review them to check if students need assistance.
The purpose for registering is to:
Provide CBL and Instructors with approximate number of students who will be engaging in CBL & what they will potentially be doing
If students are unsure, CBL can follow up and provide guidance to identify opportunities
Provide CBL Program with information needed to set up identified Community Partners in GivePulse
And allow for targeted communication and notification to students
You will be provided with a link to the CBL Student Registration that can be shared with students & it will be posted to your course in GivePulse. Here is a demo course so you can see what the registration looks like.

In conjunction with registering, students should identify and contact their community partner to make arrangements for community engagement and review the CBL assignment/project parameters.
This includes ensuring their community partner agrees to have a designated supervisor/verifier that will follow CBL’s Exposure Communication Protocols for COVID-19
Once student’s registration is approved, they will receive instructions and a CRN specific link to submit the Community-Based Learning Agreement
Its is important to reiterate to students that they will not be able to start community engagement activities until their Learning Agreement is acknowledged by the instructor and community partner

Students will need to report their activities by adding impacts in GivePulse
The great thing about the GivePulse platform is that the community partner will be automatically notified by email to verify the student’s reported impacts.
As instructors, you will also be notified as students add impacts and those impacts are verified. You will also have the ability to verify those impacts.
These impacts are also used by the CBL Program to provide Risk Management with information in regards to any COVID-19 Exposure Communication
