Thank you for visiting this site of student's work and contributions. If you're a visitor from outside of my classroom, please be aware that there are some mentions of material that may be triggering for some individuals. Personal stories are shared and the work that I and students have done is deeply personal and through no small amount of thought and effort. Thank you for using this resource and for treating the material within with the respect that it deserves. With much gratitude, welcome to the Collaborative Archive Project. Please address any questions directly to me at: kim.manchester@pcc.edu
This project seeks to create, through student contributions and collaboration, a resource archive that is visually rich, that reflects a history that does not minimize voices but rather amplifies the contributions, work and words of photographers who have traditionally been missing from the dominant narrative.
is a social justice, civil rights and equity focused collection of “artists to know.” It is intended to serve as a resource in order to widen the lens through which future students and educators learn about photography and to de-canonize and de-colonialize the foundation of photography’s history, beginnings, theory and practice.
Students will identify their topic, research and contribute to this archive throughout the term through a combination of independent, small group and all class activities, the project will culminate in a presentation and self-reflection activity.
Every archive entry consists of an image gallery, citations and sources for further research as well as education guides and questions for looking created by each student.
In collaboration with PCC Librarians, Art History and Studio Art Faculty as well as in consultation with the Teaching Learning Center and with the support of Deans, this project will become a searchable resource. It is intended to grow with each term and the goal is to provide a location where folx can find, search and use this archive as a teaching and learning tool - at PCC but also in other learning environments.
