Ronny Sen
I have decided to choose the artist named Ronny Sen and his series the Fire Continuum (2014) for the CAP assignment. He is an artist born in 1986 in Silchar, Assam, in the north-east of India. His family migrated to Calcutta, West Bengal, in the early 90s, and he still lives and works there. Additionally some of his photographs have won the Getty Images Instagram Grant, and were even exhibited in the Netherlands and in New York. The reason why I have chosen him, is his works on the Coal Mines of Jharia, India. Here is where I thought some of his best works were captured. Photographing the intense fires burning underground in the coal mines of Jharia and some amazing landscape shots. Although there was beauty in his captures, he was exposing the cost of mining. He was documenting the apocalyptic landscape of Jharia which was once a lush forest.
