Current Events

7th and 8th Grade / Semester

Current Events is a course for students who love discussing, debating, and thinking about current events. This elective course focuses on world, national, and local issues that impact our everyday lives. In the course, students will read and analyze primary source materials and opinion pieces in order to better understand the world around them, participate in group projects, discussions and debates, and create their own pieces of media. Through the lens of current events, students will learn the skills to critically analyze news sources and understand how cultural, national, religious, and political experiences affect personal beliefs. Students will learn how to have respectful, civil discourse about controversial issues and opposing viewpoints.
