Microsoft Word Fundamentals

Microsoft Word is the world's most popular document processing software package. Many people have used Microsoft Word but most people just scratch the surface of what this powerful program to do. This class starts with the basic functions of the program and then takes students further into some of the powerful tools build into the program that are always there, but of which must users remain unaware.

The class assumes students have knowledge of basic computer functions but minimal, if any, experience with Microsoft Word.

Topics included are:

•     Creating, saving and retrieving word processing documents

•     Developing multiple versions of documents

•     Using Microsoft Word tools to compose documents - AutoCorrect, Spelling, Grammar and Thesaurus

•     Typeset theory and the use of fonts and typestyles

•     Manipulating text within documents and from document to document

•     Word processing and desktop publishing tools in Word to polish documents

•     Using templates and layouts to create a variety of documents including envelopes, labels and flyers

•     Converting web documents to web pages and posting them on the web as part of a final class project

•     All students who complete this class will have the opportunity to sit for the Microsoft Word Certification exam with their proctor           fees waived.

Microsoft Excel

This Microsoft Excel course provides students the capabilities to develop and implement electronic spreadsheets. Microsoft Excel is the most powerful spreadsheet tool available and is used in many businesses.

Topics included in this course are:

•     Working with formulas including compound and embedded formulas

•     Combining spreadsheets into interdependent workbooks

•     Using keyboard shortcuts to work with spreadsheets

•     Developing charts off of spreadsheet data

•     Using freeze panes

•     Publishing spreadsheets to the World Wide Web

•     All students who complete this class will be given the opportunity to sit for the Microsoft Excel Certification exam with their proctor fees waived.
