The Pennsylvania Department of Education's Bureau of Special Education will pay (via a coupon code) the registration cost of $365.00 for the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) for eligible individuals during the 2026 calendar year.
Looking for a career as an educational interpreter? After taking the EIPA, consider applying for an educational interpreter internship. Individuals awaiting their EIPA results are encouraged to apply for a school-based position at the listed LEAs. You'll earn a paycheck, receive mentoring from a local educational interpreter, and participate in formal mentoring through Utah State University.
Applicants must meet one or both of the following criteria:
Be a Pennsylvania resident.
Be currently enrolled in or a graduate of a Pennsylvania Interpreter Training Program.
1st time eligible test takers: The coupon code will pay the full cost ($365.00) of the assessment.
2nd time eligible test takers: The coupon code will pay half the cost ($182.50) of the assessment. The remaining balance of $182.50 is the responsibility of the individual and is to be paid at the time of registration.
Note: Individuals may not receive, seek, or accept any other funding or reimbursement to cover the EIPA registration fee for which the PA Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education will pay.
Completion of the online form is required before registering for the EIPA.
Applications will be reviewed and processed as they are received.
Applicants will receive an email notification indicating their approval status.
Approved applicants will receive a unique coupon code via email.

Coupon codes are valid for six months from the date of issuance and must be used before the expiration date.
Tax Disclosure:
Payments made under this program are considered taxable income. All recipients will be required to submit a completed IRS Form W-9 prior to payment. IRS Form 1099 will be issued only if the total payments received from Intermediate Unit One during the calendar year exceed the applicable IRS reporting threshold, currently $2000. Recipients are responsible for any tax obligations resulting from these payments.
