Program Description

The Electrical Technology Program focuses on a well-rounded curriculum that prepares students for the careers most prevalent in the New England area, that are in the Electrical Industry. Students should expect a fun and diverse, but rigorously demanding educational experience, that equally involves physical and mental execution of skills. Students will be up and moving all day, with very little desk work. Students will be continuously immersed in applying their knowledge to actual hands-on lab activities.

Grade Focus

9th Grade:

  • Daily Safety Program that highlights hand- tool safety, and safety in a lab setting.
  • The National Electrical Code
  • Practice wiring of typical basic circuit designs.
  • Read, interpret, and build circuits using basic schematic diagrams.

10th Grade:

  • Daily Safety Program that highlights power tool safety, and safety on residential job sites.
  • The National Electrical Code
  • Practice wiring of typical residential circuits, residential services, and proper grounding.
  • Read, interpret, and build circuits using basic residential blueprints.

11th Grade:

  • Daily Safety Program that highlights Commercial Construction Sites, and specialty power tool safety.
  • The National Electrical Code
  • Practice installation of different wiring methods, and commercial circuits.
  • Read, interpret, and build circuits using basic Commercial blueprints.
  • Students will build an understanding of the importance of which wiring method to use for the given application.

12th Grade:

  • Daily Safety Program that covers industrial and specialized installations.
  • Course of Study will be open to the student’s interest and desired future direction, allowing for study in such fields as industrial application and controls.
  • Telecommunications and Data Wiring, Fire and Burglar Alarms, Cable TV and CCTV systems, audio and video cabling.
  • Further residential and commercial wiring skills in the lab as well as in the community.

  • Personal, tool, and construction site safety.
  • Navigation techniques and application of the National Electrical code.
  • The Science of Electrical Theory.
  • Standard industry practices to perform tasks in a accurate, neat, and workmanlike manner.
  • Specialty systems based on particular aspects of the industry that are of individual interest.

Hands on Projects

  • Safe hand and power tool use.
  • Construction of basic to advanced electrical circuits.
  • Construction of residential electrical systems.
  • Construction of commercial electrical systems- including wiring methods.
  • Construction of industrial electrical systems- including industrial controls.
  • Upperclassmen (grades 11 & 12) are given the opportunity to participate in off -campus projects and cooperative education for actual employers (must meet qualifications).
