An employee who sustains a work-related injury or accident is presumed eligible for workers’ compensation benefits and should seek the benefits to which he or she is entitled by law. In accordance with applicable statutes, the Passaic Board of Education will permit an absence without loss of pay or annual/accumulated sick leave for the injured employee.
If you are receiving workers’ compensation for an approved work-related injury, all follow-up Urgent Care visits and therapy appointments must be scheduled outside of work hours or during your lunch break. The only appointments that may be conducted during work hours are visits with an approved medical Specialist.
Any employee who qualifies for work-related disability pay under this policy shall receive full pay during the period of disability leave, for up to one (1) calendar year. Employees who sustain work-related injuries must immediately notify their Administrator and the school nurse. The school nurse or the injured employee must contact the workers’ compensation hotline provided by our Third-Party Administrator, Bergen Risk, at 1-888-525-3454. Bergen Risk will direct the employee to an appropriate medical facility when the situation is not an emergency.
