Known for its immersive and studio-based approach to art and design education, RISD looks for students who demonstrate both technical skill and a strong conceptual voice.
Portfolio Requirements:
Number of Pieces: 12–20 examples of your most recent work.
Media: Submissions can be in any medium, including film, video, and sketchbook pages. RISD encourages a variety of work that showcases your thinking and creative process.
Key Focus: The admissions committee wants to see a wide range of your ideas, curiosity, and experimentation. Including pages from your sketchbook is highly recommended to show your research, thinking, and investigation. They value seeing how you develop your ideas from start to finish.
Observational Drawing: It is strongly suggested to include some examples of drawing from direct observation, not from photographs.
