Brooklyn College offers both BA and BFA programs, with the BFA being a more intensive studio track that requires a portfolio for direct admission into the major.
Number of Pieces: 10-15 pieces of your best and most recent work.
Media: Your portfolio should showcase a variety of media and approaches. It is strongly recommended to include:
Observational Drawings: Several examples of drawing from life (not from photos) are expected. This includes still lifes, figure drawings, portraits, and landscapes. This demonstrates your fundamental skills.
Other Media: You should also include work in other areas like painting, 2D or 3D design, photography, collage, or digital art to show your creative range.
Key Focus: The admissions committee wants to see your technical foundation and your personal creative vision. They are looking for originality and a willingness to experiment. The portfolio should convince them that you have the necessary drawing skills to succeed in their program and a unique voice that you are beginning to develop. Work copied from other artists or photos is strongly discouraged.
