The Arts Supplement is for applicants who have an exceptional talent in the fine arts that cannot be fully conveyed in the standard application. It's reviewed by Visual Arts faculty and can add a significant dimension to your candidacy.
Number of Pieces: You can submit up to 20 images of your work.
Media: Submissions can be in any visual medium, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, video, and installation art. For time-based work like video or animation, you can submit up to two videos, each a maximum of three minutes in length.
Key Focus: Columbia is looking for a conceptually driven and technically proficient body of work. The faculty wants to see evidence of a serious and sustained engagement with contemporary art practices. Your portfolio should demonstrate:
A Cohesive Vision: The work should feel connected and showcase your unique artistic voice and perspective, rather than being a collection of unrelated class assignments.
Critical Thinking: They are interested in how you think and the ideas you are exploring through your art.
Originality: The work must be original and should reflect your independent creative explorations.
Artist's Statement: You will be asked to provide information about each piece, including the title, medium, dimensions, and date. A brief artist's statement or description of your work and conceptual interests is also highly recommended to provide context for the faculty reviewers.
